Troubleshooting Lord of the Rings Online with ISBoxer

New

Please see our updated guide and accompanying video, [LOTRO] How to get Lord of the Rings Online working for ISBoxer.

This guide will help you solve some common problems getting Lord of the Rings Online to work with ISBoxer, so you can get back to multiboxing. Some of these issues are new as of the Siege of Mirkwood expansion release.

First, a few things:

  1. ISBoxer requires LOTRO to be in Direct3D9 mode, rather than Direct3D10 mode
  2. Make sure the Turbine Download Manager is disabled and the LOTRO Launcher is not already running. ISBoxer will need to launch the Launcher for each Character, so make sure the Launcher is configured to close after launching the game. In the options screen in the LOTRO launcher, under Updates you need to make sure that "Retrieve updates automatically" is unchecked, and under Advanced you need to make sure "Show the launcher in the system tray" is unchecked.

With that in mind, here are some common problems and solutions.

Unspecified patch error

As of the Siege of Mirkwood release, the LOTRO patcher no longer functions correctly if the game is running. If you get "Unspecified patch error" when the launcher is at "Examine Game Data", you will need to use multiple game folders. See this post on the ISBoxer.com forums for details if you are not sure how to do this.

Alternatively, you can add an option to how Inner Space launches the LOTRO launcher to disable patching through the launcher. See this post on the ISBoxer.com forums for details.

Can't bind local socket

  1. Open your UserPreferences.ini file, found in your Documents\The Lord Of The Rings Online folder
  2. Look for a line that says [Net] near the bottom
  3. A couple lines below [Net] is a line that says
ComputeUniquePort=True

Change it to:

ComputeUniquePort=False
